Social Media Overview

This site will assist you in understanding current and budding social media. We will keep you abreast of the pros and cons of the sites and provide you resources to keep your family and children educated and safe.

Social Media, like reality television and cell phones has become a real impact in our families day to day existence. There are many conveniences, however, the cons greatly outweigh the pros.

The primary Social Media used today are Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and YouTube just to mention a few. Listed below are just a few of the precautions you must take to ensure that you children remain safe.

  • No parental experience: I know your saying, what does that mean? We did not grow up with the technology we have today, in fact for the first time in history our children are facing challenges that we have no life experience to compare it to. Many parents are registered and use these technologies and services, however, they did not experience them as children. We cannot just assume they get it and leave them to their own advice and hope for the best.
  • Predators: If you have a sexual predator in your neighborhood, you are able to look up a database and know exactly where they are at. On the web, there are more than 750,000 pedophiles and predators and they are masters of getting to our children. They are masters and providing a false sense of security, fulfilling a void and giving them a sense of someone who knows them, understands them. They open up to them and give them information or even worse, they will do what the predator wants them to and leave or go with them. If you think I am crazy, think of this, a child is abducted nearly every 90 seconds in our country. In fact, Arizona, is only behind Mexico as the largest abduction local in the world. This is right here in our country.
  • Providing too much information: For some reason, we provide WAY TOO MUCH INFORMATION. People tell every on Facebook or Twitter that they are on vacation, provide pictures and air grievances and arguments that frankly need to be kept private. Our kids are being raised in an environment where they are literally participants in their own reality series. Not unlike we did when we were growing up, they will conduct themselves sometimes in a way that will be in direct contradiction to the way they were raised. They will do and say things, provide pictures and videos that can never be taken back.
  • Employers, College Recruiters and Law Enforcement: I am not sure if you know this, employers, college recruiter and law enforcement are using Social Media sites to learn more about you. They are looking at your friends, pictures or post to see if they can use any of the information against you.
