I remember when I was a senior in High School, parents asking me what I was going to do with my life. I thought, I am going to college that was suppose to be the natural progression, right? What I soon realized was this had nothing to do with a formal education. However, it did have everything to do with an education in Personal Development.

Success Skills are not taught, however, they are used daily by the top 3% of the country. The challenge is most people do not know where to start. Individuals who become successful typically learn these success skills as adults, many times through very expensive lessons. How many times have you said, "I wish I would have known that when I was younger".

Why Do We Invest In Fastfood, But We Will No Invest in
Our Children's Development and Future Success

For more than 20 years I have worked with families just like yours and mine. I see parents spend hundreds, if not thousands of dollars every year investing in McDonalds, Wendy's, Burger King any other fast food restaurant, but will balk at investing in their childs future, why is that?

Our children are our most precious asset, and frankly, many of us are setting them up for failure. We are not investing in their future anymore than our parents invested in ours. Our kids are facing challenges that we never encountered and the consequences for ignoring their development can be far more devistating then it was for us.

Listed below are just a few of the steps parents should take to ensure their children receive the proper education to increase their chance for success as an adult.

Parents you need to invest in your own success skills, and the Parents as Coaches program does just that. Develops your skills so you can help your child succeed faster than we did.

Spend time communicating with them.

Learn about Vision Boards (See Parents As Coaches)

Develop Goal Setting Skills

Make Reading a Must

Develop communication and public speaking skills

Make personal development part of their education

Learn a 2nd or 3rd language

If you invested in the Parents as Coaches program as well as this membership program, you are on the right track. We will provide you with more success secrets as well as professionals that will help you break the patter that we have been in for generations.

If you have not invested fully in yours or your child's future, it is time to get off the fence. Be pro-active in your life. There is an old saying

"Chance Favors the Prepared Mind and Body"

Good Luck!!!!!

Master Gary A. Schill

Communication is one of the toughest skills to develop. For many adults we were to be seen on heard when we were growing up. For this generation of children, texting has replaced speaking as the number form of communication. I know, you are saying, “What does this have to do with Listening Skills”. I will tell you, a great deal.

Most marriages, relationships and work related divorces are in great cause due to lack of communication. The biggest reason why, lack of proper Listening Skills. In this lesson, we are going to teach you some great listening skills that will improve your overall communication with your family. Decrease the level of stress you feel, mainly in part because you feel like you have to keep repeating yourself.

The 5 Skills of Listening

It’s frustrating when our children don’t listen, isn’t it? When they don’t pay
attention to what you are saying at home, you wonder how much information they are missing at school.

In 20+ years of teaching Martial Arts we have developed a 5 step approach to teaching the skills of listening. You can easily teach these 5 steps to your child.

The Listening Posture. Teach your child that when it’s time to listen, they must sit or stand up straight. Shoulders back, lift the chest a little. Chin high. This alone can double listening retention!

Direct Eye Contact is Essential. Insist on it when you are speaking with your child. She will then be able to focus on the words being said. How many times have you spoken to your child only to see them fixated on a television program or video games. Get them to Focus their eyes on you and they will respond much better.

Repeat the Message Back to the Speaker When Possible. For example, a child might say, “So, mom you’d like for me to clean up my room and feed the cat before I play on the computer”. This lets the speaker know your child has understood.

Ask Questions? Coach your children to ask you respectful questions. This shows that they are paying attention and care about what the other person is saying. “Why do we have to rinse the dishes before we put them in the dishwasher, instead of, that’s stupid, that is what the dishwasher is for.

Look for More Information. Especially with older children, train to ask themselves, “How does the speaker feel about what they are saying.” Are they angry? Bored? Interested? Concerned? Learn to react calmly, not with emotion if the other person is already angry or sad.

Parents, even young children can be taught these steps. Begin by reading them to your kids, and then practicing each skill.

When you observe your child losing focus, just the simple reminder, “Remember… listening skills!” will refocus them. And, of course, watch like a hawk for situations when your child does not listen effectively. Catch them doing it right and follow up with a huge dose of appreciation. “Honey, I am so proud of you for listening to what I was saying!”

Adult Listening Skills

As a man I can tell you that many times I am single minded, especially when I am watching sports or some history or car show. Much of that has to do with my work environment. I am spinning plates all day and when I get home, I just want to give my mind a rest. With all that being said, it would be a good idea that if you need to speak with your spouse. Find a time when you can turn the television off, get face to face with preferably no distraction. (I have 5 kids, I understand) This will improve how the two of you hear each other and hopefully will reduce the frustration either party feeling as though the other is not listening or dismissing their feelings.

In future lessons, we will give you some tips and tricks for improving communication skills in all areas of your life.

Listed below are just a few of the steps you can take to ensure your families safety and well-being.

For Parental Experience, you need to get involved, you can’t tell them the crazy stories our parents told us about walking to school both ways, uphill, in the snow… You need to be involved in area of their lives, especially their online presence. You need to know their passwords, monitor their post and who their friends are. When your child starts spouting some non-sense about no privacy, think what privacy they have on the web with the information, pictures and videos for the entire world to see. There is not privacy anymore, but you can protect them from making a mistake that will live with them for the rest of their lives.

The predators answer is much like the previous one. More importantly, you need to remind and make your children know they can speak with you about anything. Build their self-confidence and self-worth so strong that they will not fall prey to online predators, bullying or negative peer pressure.

For private information, first keep your social sites private, do not upload pictures and video especially if you do not want someone to see it. We need to remind our children, especially our teenagers that once you push send, there is no getting it back. Do not tell anyone when you are doing things or where you are at, it just opens you up to predators that are looking to take advantage of people that are naïve or clueless to the dangers.

This monitoring of data and keeping your information private will keep you from unknowingly open yourself to scrutiny by future employers, college admissions and law enforcement. You also need to check out your friends, just because you were good friends in high school does not mean you know them now or their history and if there is information you really need to know.

NEW PHONE APP ALERT
There is a new phone application that just was released the end of March 2011. The name of the app is called Color. This app allows people who have this app of their phone to automatically see pictures on anyone’s phone within 150 feet that has the same app. This is a pedophiles dream. There are already too many people sharing information, for our youth, they do not always see the errors of their ways or consequences of their actions. Be aware of this app, it can be very dangerous.

We will be constantly updating the information on this site to keep you informed and armed with the properly skills to ensure your families success, now and in the future.

This site will assist you in understanding current and budding social media. We will keep you abreast of the pros and cons of the sites and provide you resources to keep your family and children educated and safe.

Social Media, like reality television and cell phones has become a real impact in our families day to day existence. There are many conveniences, however, the cons greatly outweigh the pros.

The primary Social Media used today are Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and YouTube just to mention a few. Listed below are just a few of the precautions you must take to ensure that you children remain safe.

No parental experience: I know your saying, what does that mean? We did not grow up with the technology we have today, in fact for the first time in history our children are facing challenges that we have no life experience to compare it to. Many parents are registered and use these technologies and services, however, they did not experience them as children. We cannot just assume they get it and leave them to their own advice and hope for the best.

Predators: If you have a sexual predator in your neighborhood, you are able to look up a database and know exactly where they are at. On the web, there are more than 750,000 pedophiles and predators and they are masters of getting to our children. They are masters and providing a false sense of security, fulfilling a void and giving them a sense of someone who knows them, understands them. They open up to them and give them information or even worse, they will do what the predator wants them to and leave or go with them. If you think I am crazy, think of this, a child is abducted nearly every 90 seconds in our country. In fact, Arizona, is only behind Mexico as the largest abduction local in the world. This is right here in our country.

Providing too much information: For some reason, we provide WAY TOO MUCH INFORMATION. People tell every on Facebook or Twitter that they are on vacation, provide pictures and air grievances and arguments that frankly need to be kept private. Our kids are being raised in an environment where they are literally participants in their own reality series. Not unlike we did when we were growing up, they will conduct themselves sometimes in a way that will be in direct contradiction to the way they were raised.
